Creativity

Fashion designing is a very creative job which often needs inspiration and a lot of effort. That is why, sometimes, you need to unwind from work and go on a vacation, a cool game arcade, or a peaceful park. The best ideas never come up in a dull, mundane office. ‘How can we overcome a designer’s block?’ is a very frequent question and problem standing in between you creating. To get inspiration, rediscover yourself. Try looking at things from a different point of view. Take a walk to your favourite cafe and talk to strangers, visit your parents or friends, go to a library, look at your old pictures and relive old memories. There’s so much that you can do!

Read a lot

Read a lot! You might think that we somehow manage to push reading into everything, but keeping up with the world is necessary, and reading is an effective way!  From magazines and fashion journals to everyday fashion news, make a habit of reading anything fashion-related that you catch sight of. As a fashion designer, its important to keep up with what's in trend and what isn't. And what better idea than making a habit of it now?! Watch fashion shows, look for model covers, and read books about fashion history all over the world!

Observe

As a fashion designer, you will have to choose the fabric, color of your product and how you want it sewed. For all this, you need to observe the people around you. The colors, fabrics, sewing styles, patterns and combinations used in different things. Fashion changes every now and then, so you’ll need to update and upgrade your ideas and choices often. For when you are designing a dress, a pattern from a little mud pot you liked back in your childhood, might just be the perfect one to bring your dress to life! So keep your eyes open all the times people!

Starting up

As we said above, keep your eyes and ears open at all times. Knowledge never goes wasted. To start, develop your artistic skills. Keep a cute little pocket diary with yourselves all the time, there’s no specified timing to where an amazing idea might strike you. Express your feelings through your sketches. When you draw lots of sketches, select the best ones and try and find the perfect fabric for it. If you’re very confident with it, you can try using this site -https://picturethisclothing.com/ where you can send your drawing and they’ll print it on a T-shirt or a gown. This way you can wear your talent and see if you really are in fashion. Try experimenting with different coloured fabrics, textures, styles and techniques. The more you explore, the more your fashion sense will expand.

Education

Like every other profession, you’ll need a degree or a qualification to get hired into a company. Here, it’s the completion of 12th grade. You can also add onto your CV by entering exams and courses like NIFT and NID. After completing your education, you will easily be able to earn internship opportunities in many companies. We recommend garnering all the knowledge  and skills you can, as this is a job where experience keeps a lot of value. Your job will include, sketching fashion ideas, cutting out and sewing the cloth with precision, drawing and fitting together patterns to create fashionable prints, selecting fabrics and looking for any special additions for your product. This job may seem very competitive and exhausting, but again, everything has its drawbacks.
